PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINT PAPER QUALITY AND FINISHES
-
All photographic prints are printed at WHCC Professional Photography Lab on Kodak Endura Professional Paper (for lustre and glossy finishes), or Fuji Crystal Archival Professional Paper (for deep matte finishes).
These papers are some of the highest quality around and have a longevity of 100 years in typical display conditions, and 200 years in dark storage conditions.
-
A lustre finish implies there will be a semi-glossy finish to the photographic product.
A glossy finish implies there will be a highly reflective finish to the photographic product.
A deep matte finish implies there will be a non-reflective finish to the photographic product.
As a general rule of thumb, glossy finishes are best when photographs are not behind a glass frame. A glossy finish is best with vibrant colours, as it has a shinier finish and tends to give off a certain sharpness. Glossy photographs can easily get dirty.
Matte finishes are best for classic black and white photographic prints or when you are framing a photograph behind glass.
A lustre finish is a mixture between both glossy photo print and matte photo print finishes (it’s semi-glossy), and it gives the best of both worlds! It is also more resistant to scratches and smudges.
As a landscape photographer, I would personally recommend a glossy paper finish for landscape and scenery photographs, as it produces the most contrast, vibrancy and overall wow factor, but please select the finish that you think aligns with your personal space (room decor, etc.), and the best finish that will produce the biggest wow factor for you!
